Sickle cell success from a baby brother’s cord blood
"If I met somebody today who has my challenge, I will tell them, ‘There is hope.’ And if they ask me, ‘Where is hope?’ I will say, 'Go to Children’s Hospital in Oakland.’"

Tony Idigima is a grateful father. His son, Lebura, suffered a stroke at age 4 as a result of his sickle cell anemia. To treat Lebura’s sickle cell disease, his family came to Children’s Hospital Oakland for a cord blood transplant. Children’s pioneered this treatment and established the first of its kind, a Sibling Donor Cord Blood Program.

A special suite for children with life-limiting illnesses
Families who have lost a child gathered with staff and donors at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland for the launch of our hospital's new Pediatric Palliative Care Program. The program works with health care providers and patient families to focus on enhancing quality of life and relieving suffering for a child at any stage in illness. A suite, called the Reflection Room, also opened. This suite will be a private space for patient families.

We're Amazed:
The Pacific Choir raised over $3,000 for Children's Hospital Oakland through their annual concert! And they performed for the kids in our hospital on Christmas Eve. Their voices were amazing, beautiful and inspiring. We thank them for their support—and for sharing their talent with us.
