About Us

Children's Hospital & Research Center Foundation is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation (Tax ID#: 94-1657474) dedicated to bringing health and well being to children through philanthropic and volunteer support for Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland.

Our Role

Since its founding in 1967, the foundation has raised millions of dollars from individual donors, charitable foundations, and corporations to enhance medical services and programs, and to help care for children who could otherwise not afford to pay. Our goal is to build a strong financial base for the hospital current and future needs through a full spectrum of development activities.

Our Vision

We believe that all children should have the best that healthcare can offer. By raising funds for  essential programs and services, as well as unrestricted funds to meet the hospital’s most  pressing needs, the Foundation helps provide the kids and families that turn to us with  undivided attention and unsurpassed care.

Our Commitment

As the charitable support organization for Northern California’s only independent children’s  hospital, we are committed to providing the margin of excellence that our young patients need and deserve. Donations to the foundation provide the resources to fund outstanding pediatric care, breakthrough research, nationally recognized child advocacy efforts, and exemplary medical training.

Pediatrics

From minor scrapes to major illnesses, Children's Hospital serves as a national referral center and a medical safety net for Bay Area children. With expertise in 31 pediatric subspecialties from adolescent medicine to urology, and more than 200,000  patient visits each year, Children's Hospital is a place just for kids, from preemies to teens.

Research

Children's research center has a unique role in improving the  lives of children and adults in our community and around the world. Bridging basic science and  clinical research in the treatment and prevention of human disease, Children's research center is comprised of six different Centers of Research that focus on cancer, genetics, nutrition and metabolism,  obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and sickle cell disease and thalassemia. Striving toward the highest standard of excellence and innovation, Children's research center is at the forefront of research that is changing the world - one patient at a time.

Advocacy

We know that kids have no political voice, but we do. We speak with legislators, elected officials, community leaders, and healthcare providers to set advocacy goals and develop  effective methods for ensuring that kids learn and grow healthy. We create community partnerships to improve the health and well being of all children and facilitate access to  healthcare where socioeconomic and language barriers may exist.

Education

Home to the third-largest pediatric residency program in California, Children’s trains the most  primary care pediatricians in the state. Children’s Hospital also provides specialized pediatric training for medical students, nurses and community physicians, as well as internship programs in the health sciences for underserved youth.
